Ted and Lily decide they can once again plug it in. However, one of the old messages that Lily hears on the machine is from Ted to Marshall, in which Ted calls Lily a bad name using the word "grinch" as a euphemism when the story is later told.
Ted is sorry, but he refuses to apologize to Lily, since in his mind, she really was a grinch for what she put Marshall through. Although Ted later tries to make it up to her, Lily already has taken her revenge on Ted. Again for Marshall's sake, Ted has to try to make up with Lily before Marshall comes home, he who is secretly running his own Christmas errand instead of completing his term paper like he said. Meanwhile, Barney is sick with a cold, but he refuses to acknowledge that fact. When he finally admits it, Robin wishes he hadn't.
Did you know Edit. Later in that episode, it is revealed that Ted's actual middle name is "Evelyn", a predominantly female name. Goofs During the flash back to , when Lily tells Ted that she always wanted an easy bake oven, Lily is seen wearing a pair of Puma Repli Cat shoes from Alternate versions When originally broadcast, the music being played during the sequence where Marshall is helping to deliver packages is Clarence Carter's "Back Door Santa".

After the best episode of the season so far it's disappointing for it to drop so far in quality with this festive episode. As is always the case with this show, when a poor episode comes along it hardly features Neil Patrick Harris's character Barney Stinson, other than in a smaller supporting role.
The term Grinch was coined from a literary character created by Dr Seuss in the story How the Grinch Stole Christmas, published in After their wedding, they decided to move out of The Apartment and get a place of their own, a place where they could raise a family. They finally settled on this apartment in the New York district of Dowisetrepla.
In the series finale, it is revealed that six years prior to Ted telling the story to his children, Tracy died in from an undisclosed illness. In the finale, the characters do not directly state that the Mother is dead. After an apparently perfect relationship with Ted, the mother died and just as we suspected, it was a way for Robin and Ted to end up together.
We called it a long time ago, down to the blue french horn, with the only mistake being killing off Barney. Farewell, Barney. It was a good nine years. Barney DID go to jail. The true reason why he went to jail? Last but not least, he was found guilty for smuggling drugs, and giving the drugs to the kids that were on Barney show.
Coincidentally, Tracy was 28 years old when she met Ted. Ted heads out to the Bronx to confront Lily at her apartment. On the way he speaks to Marshall who is excited about the Winter Wonderland and then is interrupted by a call from his mother who is angry about Ted's bad language.
Meanwhile, Robin has convinced Barney to rest in Ted's bed. De-suited, he is miserable about his predicament but allows Robin to feed him soup. Ted confronts Lily in her apartment which is cramped with the decorations. He begs Lily to come home. He apologizes for calling her "that word" but Lily says he is faking the apology and is still mad. She explains that she apologized to Marshall who has forgiven her and they have moved on.
Why can't Ted? Ted admits that he is mad because she never apologized to him. Ted was upset with her for leaving him too. They start to argue and Ted calls her a "grinch" again. Ted says that she can return to the apartment because he won't be there and instead will be spending Christmas Eve with his cousin.
Marshall comes home with a package under his arm. Lily has returned the decorations leaving Marshall none-the-wiser. He tells her about the adventure he had getting her the package and then helping the delivery man bring presents to others throughout the day so people will have presents in time for Christmas.
The present is an Easy-Bake Oven. Lily is surprised because, while she had always wanted one as a child, she had never told Marshall. Marshall explains that the suggestion actually came from Ted. One night, back in college, Marshall had gone out; Ted and Lily were high and Lily told Ted about it. Lily is touched that Ted remembered the tidbit and suddenly feels guilty for forcing Ted to spend Christmas with his family.
Ted is on Staten Island spending Christmas with his pregnant, ultra-Christian cousin, Stacy , and her family. She and Ted exchange apologies and the gang heads home.
