The statement that Asuma admitted he was weaker than Hidan is true, but not at the timing because the battle kept going and Asuma did very well considering they didn't have knowledge. Hidan is extremely fast with Asuma able to extend hien gave him a huge advantage.
Kakashi could only block him for so long as he uses a basic Kunai that eventually broke off. Kakashi would die to Hidan as well if it was the same scenario. Hidan was only able to get a cut on Asuma because Hidan was going to attack the others and Asuma tried to stop him but threw a kunai in a different direction throwing off Asuma and Asuma was hit by the Sycthe.
Hidan had to use a couple of weapons to fight Asuma and Asuma had to worry about two useless fucks lol. With knowledge Asuma would be able to defeat Hidan because he would of had a better plan and would result in using burning ash then going CQC or Flying swallow weakening Hidan or killing him.
