Riders are encouraged to get a Ventra Card and register a transit account at ventrachicago. Registered Ventra Card users can load multi-day passes and transit value to their card, and have their balance protected if the card is lost or stolen. There are hundreds of suburban retail locations where customers can obtain Ventra Cards or reload value or passes to their accounts. Riders with smartphones benefit from easier account management with the Ventra app --which has all the functionality of the vending machine, but fits right in your pocket!

The first tap will utilize value from a pass if you have one. Any subsequent taps will deduct from transit value only, so be sure to have enough transit value on your Ventra Card. If you have a registered Ventra Card, you can request a replacement Card be mailed to you right here!
Doing so will deactivate the Card so that your balance is protected. The balance from your old Card will be transferred to your new Card upon activation. It will take 7 to 10 business days to receive a replacement Ventra Card by mail. Customers can tap their Android device, iPhone or Apple Watch to pay for rides using transit value or passes. Ventra also accepts industry-standard, contactless payments, which means that you can use a bankcard loaded into digital wallets or payment apps such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay and Ventra when boarding a bus or when entering a CTA train station. If using a Pay app, be sure to have the app use the same funding source every time you tap to make sure you get the best fare.

If your credit or debit card has this symbol on the front or back, it is contactless and can be used to pay for rides on the CTA and Pace. Just take out your bankcard and tap it on the center of the card reader.
Then, watch for the green "Go" message to appear on the reader. Like other purchases made with a credit card, merchants will often pre-authorize a certain dollar amount.
